“Emmy is an excellent teacher who is very skilled at delivering mindfulness to teenagers in a way that is not patronising but very much on their level. They respond to her genuine warmth and total belief in what she is sharing with them and many students learned valuable skills that they still use in helping them cope with the stresses of modern life. Her calm presence and evident knowledge of both yoga and mindfulness is an incredibly useful tool for any school looking to further support their students’ mental wellbeing.”
Amy Sellars, Assitant Head, Latymer Upper School, London
I have been teaching mindfulness in Secondary school for over 4 years working with both students and staff. In assemblies, in tutor time, as part of PSHCE and drop-in mindfulness sessions, as well as teaching yoga and meditation after school. As a qualified secondary school teacher I am used to communicating with young people and explaining things in a way that they can understand and connect with.
Many teenagers have a great deal of stress in their lives with exams, pressure from parents, teachers, friends and even the wider pressure of “how they should be” according to what is portrayed in the media and social media. The distraction of phones and internet is ever present, meaning they rarely get a chance to just be with themselves.
“Of all the aspects of my work, facilitating mindfulness practice with teenagers in one of the most deeply rewarding. I love watching the change in their whole demeanour after even 10 minutes of practice. Over time the ability to gain perspective and calm in stressful times becomes even more manifest.”
